NIELSEN, Kenneth C. 61, of Needham, retired Fire Fighter for the City of Newton, Feb. 26, 2009 . Beloved husband for 38 years to Jane (McMullen). Loving father of Katie Kanozak and her husband Dave of Newton and the late Stacey L. Nielsen. Brother of Carl Nielsen of St. Petersburg, FL, and the late Philip Nielsen, Judith Caliri and Claire Devine. Brother-in-law of Marie T. Nielsen of Tilton, NH and John Devine of Woburn. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a celebration of Ken's life from 1-4 on Sunday, March 8th at the American Legion Nonantum Post #440, 295 California St. in Newton. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Stacey L. Nielsen Fund, 9 Hazelton Ave., Needham, MA 02492. Late graduate from Newton Technical School, class of '64. Ken was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. During his tour, he received 2 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Ken joined the Newton Fire Department at Station #7 in 1972, and retired in 1993 from injuries sustained during a fire at the H.C. Starck in Newton. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion in Newton and the VFW in Needham. Ken owned and operated KC Appliance in Needham for 15 years. Ken's main goal in life was to live life to the fullest, his family and friends will forever remember all the amazing, fun and loving times spent with him.
