I am writing this in memory of Cheryl Lawn, a beautiful, kind and friendly classmate who was in my homeroom for nearly three years. We sat in assigned seats and Cheryl sat in the row next to mine and about two seats back. Our homeroom was on the north end of the top-most floor of the oldest building. Our desks were the old wooden flip top style with wrought-iron legs and an opening for an ink well, antiques even in 1964. Mr. Martin was our homeroom teacher who taught Ancient History. I'm guessing that he would have made the subject come to life for his students. Unfortunately, I did not have him for a history teacher, even though he suggested that I enroll in his class. (My father wanted me to take European History.) One day during our senior year, Mr. Martin announced to our class that Cheryl had passed away suddenly during the night as a result of an epileptic seizure...Her seat remained vacant for the duration of the year and she was dearly missed. Here I am at age 71 remembering her now, so sorry she was unable to live a full life, thankful for havng known her.

Cheryl was a kind and gentle soul and left this earth far too soon. I am still occasionally in touch with her brother, Jimmy, who now lives in Florida and I know he'd be touched by kind remembrances of his sister. KB

Betty, Cheryl was a beautiful and kind soul.  There are times when I think back, I remember her with fondness.  It was a very sad time for those who especially knew Cheryl. Thank you for the remembrance.
