JOHNSON, C. Peter Of West Newton, passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2020 at the age of 74. Beloved husband for the past 50 years of Donna (Garrow) Johnson. Devoted father of Terence Johnson and his wife Lucy Davidson of London, UK and Erica Villiotte and her husband Tom of Watertown, MA. Adoring grandfather "Bumpa" to Jack, Gracie, Jacob and Annika. Brother of Beverly Bitner of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and brother-in-law and and forever friend of John Murphy of Harwich, MA. Also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he adored. Predeceased by his parents, Jean and Evan Johnson; and sisters, Dorothy O'Toole and Anne Murphy. Peter graduated from Newton High School Class of 1964, attended Harvard College class of '68. After a long career as mainframe Systems Programmer he retired at the age of 70. Peter spent over 25 years as a member of Newton Parks and Recreation Commission, stepping down recently. Committed to youth sports he spent many years as a Newton West Little League coach. An intelligent guy of a quiet nature, Peter was an avid Red Sox fan, voracious reader of mysteries, crossword puzzler, traveler, golfer, animal lover and bird watcher. His loyalty to those he loved was unconditional, he was always there to lend a hand and he never uttered a negative word about anyone...except during elections. We will miss his infectious smile and sparking blue eyes greatly. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and social distancing guidelines, there will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring. A private viewing and internment have been held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Peter to the John M. Barry Boys and Girls Club of Newton at 675 Washington Street, West Newton 02465, The Scandinavian Living Center at 206 Waltham Street, West Newton 02465 or the charity of your choice.
